This is the Duty bLog for the club.
Past and Present events for the chapter are being posted here. It will start with the things that we did as the 49th Marine Strike Group, and it will continue as how we continue along as the USS Stephen Hawking. When we moved away from the San Francisco area it took a few months. Then we chose to make the full break and start on a journey as our very own Coorospondance Chapter in Starfleet.
Since then we have become not only comfortable as our very own chapter, but we have become very sucessful as a chapter. We have a long way to go, and we would like to engage and keep our other members who are far away involved in the fun that we want to share. Starfleet is a great place to share our experiences in Fandom. We all share the dream of a future of harmony and love in the world.
There was a greater message in the 50 year old vision that TV writer Eugene Roddenberry shared with the world when Star Trek came into being, and the subsquent incarnations as Star Trek the Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager and Enterprise. We look forward to the new TV show in 2017. We have enjoyed most of the movie offerings, and have actually become involved in some of the Fan Made Productions that you can see on YouTube and other places on the internet.
As time moves forward we hope that our futures will always include Star Trek, and its special message that it brings to humanity.
Colonel Derek Allen

I received our first quote for our anniversay patch for the chapter. Here is the deal, I contacted the same folks TheStudio.com where I had the 49thMSG patches. They have given us a great deal at 30% off. The patch will have cloth on the red and black parts but the letters and the Hawk will be stitched. The letters will be a white or light grey, but the Hawk will be sticted in metallic threads of Silver and Gold. These will be very special because we will not make this design with metallic thread again. If we make this design again there will not be metallic thread involved. This is the 1st anniversary special.
Are you ready for the price. 100 pieces at $1.70 each. The $170 dollars include shipping and taxes this is a flat rate. If 9 of us contribute $20 each we can have these made and delivered to us before August 20th.
I would like to distribute them in this fashion: All membrers (we have aproximentaly 24 members at this time (I am not including civilian members or charter members) . Each member will receive a free patch, contributers will receive 3 patches each. (unless you want to contribute your patch to the funding of other items we will be making)
The remaining 51 patches will be sold to members and others for the price of $5 dollars each. If we can sell the others patches we will make you guessed it $255 dollars which we can use to create other patches and items. Of course people who are not yet members of the USS Stephen Hawking and Starfleet will have to pay a Shipping and Handling charge.

So about two weeks after I went to the ST: Beyond Fan Screening I was looking at images from Pintrest and I came across this movie poster from ST: The Motion Picture.
I know that many homages to the 50 year old franchize are being paid in this film and in other things this season. I wonder if they meant to do this with the poster. Happy Anniversary Star Trek.
I have been hearing good things about the new film, that it feels more like an episode of the original series then any of the previous movies.

A short while ago, there were two Strike Groups that belonged to the USS Golden Gate. That was when Starfleet told us that only one Strike Group per chapter. So the 13th MSG went into hybernation and we got to keep the designation from the Marines. As soon as we started our own chapter in Southern California, the 13th Marine Strike Group was re-awakned like Godzilla from a deep ocean slumber.
The 13th had a logo created by Lenny Emery of the USS Golden Gate, the center of the logo the whole thing was commisioned by Benjamin Salisbury of the MARDET. Since the re-commisioning of the Strike Group we wanted to change a few things about the logo. Something that LTC Salisbury could use for the rest of the incarnation of the MSG. Now that the Strike Group is designated Combined Arms and not just Special Operations. we wanted to make the new logo look dynamic. So here it is, to look clean and match what we have going on with the Hawking's graphics I would like to introduce the new Logo of Murphy's Law, Combined Arms Brance.
Thank you Major Horowitz for your work on this image.

Found early Sunday morning June 19, 2016 Mr. Yelchin was found pinned by his Jeep Cherokee in his California home drive way. Yelchin was best known for his reoccurring role as Paval Chekov in the Rebooted Star Trek Universe created by J.J. Abrams in 2009. Anton also played a young Kyle Reese in the 2009 Terminator Salvation. He will soon be seen as Chekov once more and for the final time in Star Trek: Beyond to be released on July 22. 2016. Our thoughts go out to his family and the actors who have worked with him over the years in this time of tragic grief.

Tonight Major Horowitz and your Captain went to see a preview of the soon to be released film Warcraft, based on Blizzard Games long time hit. World of Warcraft. The film where humans are pitted against Orcs in a realm of magic and other races turned out to be an Epic of the genre! The special effects where wonderful to behold and we were treated to viewing it in IMAX 3D!! It had everything, spells, battle and glowing eyed magic users on both sides.
I thought it was worthy of 3.6 of 5 stars, and Martin said "It is surprisingly good for a movie based on computer game." and said he would give it 3 stars. If you have nothing better to watch in the next two weeks I would suggest it, especially if you enjoy "Swords and Sorcery" styled films like Lord of the Rings, and Game of Thrones on TV.
